Chania Ravdouha

General information

Ravdouha is a small, picturesque village in Rodopos Peninsula, Chania. It was named after the Greek word ravdizo, which metaphorically means, “affect”, because of the intense weather affecting the region. Ravdouha is built on a rocky landscape full of olive groves and has about 133 inhabitants. Most of its houses are made of stone and are really worth admiring for their Cretan style and traditional character. From the hill where the village is situated, you can enjoy the wonderful view of the Kissamos Gulf.

Ravdouha boasts a charming, pebbly beach of the same name, around 3 km from the village center. It’s an ideal destination for quiet and relaxation, as well as snorkeling. On your way to the shore, you will come across two churches: the cavernous chapel of Saint Onoufrios and the Byzantine church of Saint Marina. They may be small, but they are definitely worth a visit during your next trip to Ravdouha. In Saint Marina Church, you will have the chance to see some old frescoes of different saints, which are still in good condition despite their age.

The village has not been affected much by tourist development, which means the options are rather limited. In fact, you will not find any shops or fancy restaurants, only a few small traditional cafes and Greek taverns. However, the dishes served there are truly delicious, and you also have the chance to enjoy savory local wines and the famous Cretan raki.
