Chania Agia Marina beach

General information

Agia Marina is one of the most important tourist resorts in Chania. It is a long sandy beach with crystalline azure waters. Sheltered by a series of artificial coves, it is a great place for swimming even on windy days.

The beach is well-organized, with umbrellas, sunbeds and showers, while it also provides facilities for a range of water sports so that the more adventurous can try their hand at jet skiing, windsurfing or water biking. Agia Marina boasts a considerable number of cafes, taverns, restaurants, hotels and rental rooms, while, to the west, there are also organized campsites all along the coastline till Kissamos Town. The local clubs and bars, which stay open all night, are a great pole of attraction for the youth of Chania.

Agia Marina Beach is located 9 km west of Chania Town, and there are many regular buses that connect the two areas. It stretches just opposite the islet of Agioi Theodoroi (or Thodorou), which is one of the very last natural habitats of the kri kri Cretan wildgoats. As it is a nature reserve, it is strictly forbidden to visit the island, except on the feast day of Agioi Theodoroi, on the 8th of June.

About 1.5 kilometers south of the Agia Marina village, visitors can also find Nerospilia (Water Cave), which has intricate stalactite and stalagmite formations and was used as a place of worship during the Middle Minoan period. Please note that the cave is currently closed.
