The sandy Koum Kapi Beach stretches right outside the eastern walls enclosing the Old Town of Chania. The seafront attracts thousands of visitors who come here to take a leisurely walk, sample the local cuisine and enjoy a drink.

The beach itself used to be one of the most popular places to take a swim. Nevertheless, as a result of water pollution, swimming here was forbidden for several years. Now, after the construction of a wastewater treatment station, Koum Kapi is once again safe for swimming. It is not organized, but there are a number of cafes along the street overlooking the beach.
