July and August are the hottest months with an average temperature of 28 °C. Nevertheless, the temperature often rises above 40°C (100°F). These summer months are famous for their strong wind blowing from the North, the Meltemi. September is the month when the heat starts to subside, and this period has, in the last years, been subject to some sporadic rainfalls. It is nevertheless a lovely month to visit the city, as are the months of April and May.
