With the decision of the Greek Minister of Culture, Mr Antionis Samaras, the old residence of Pavlos Melas (1870-1904) in Kifisia neighbourhood (Tatoiou st, 50) will be restored to obtain again its old glory. This house was designed by Pavlos Melas himself, the famous officer of the Hellenic Army, who participated in the Greek Struggle for Macedonia. In fact, in a battle near Kastoria town, Northern Greece, he lost his life for the deliberation of Macedonia from the Bulgarians and the Ottoman Turks, becoming thus the symbol of this struggle. This house, a special model of country house of the late 19th century, was built in 1894-1897 and since 1904, when Melas left for the war, it had been abandoned.
