Wedding dress exhibition in Benaki Museum

An interesting exhibition will take place from January 23rd at the Benaki Museum, in the Pireos Street Annex. The exhibition is entitled Brides: Tradition and Fashion in Greece and presents a large array of wedding dresses from the collections of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation.

The collection ranges from local traditional Greek dresses of the 19th century till the dawn of the 21st century, where European fashion dominate more evidently. Presenting a variety in shapes and decorative motifs in the bridal wear of the past two centuries, from the elegant and ornate wedding dresses at the end of the 19th century till the eccentric appearances of the 21st century brides, the curators of the exhibition intend to present the particular social and experimental function of the wedding dress.

The exhibition is part of the celebrations of the 40th anniversary since the establishment of the Peloponnesian Folklore Foundation. All wedding dresses come from donations and offers to the Foundation.
