New digital exhibition on El Greco

Apr 01, 2015 — May 31, 2015 • Category: Events

An impressive exhibition dedicated to the great Greek Renaissance artist Domenicus Theotokopoulos, widely known as El Greco, was inaugurated yesterday evening at the National Sculpture Gallery in Athens. The exhibition is in digital form and showcases some of El Greco's most significant artworks.
Visitors to the exhibition experience an amazing audio visual tour of the most important works of El Greco and learn about their historical, artistic and social background. As these extraordinary pieces of art could not be carried and brought to the museum, either due to their big size or their remote location in churches and museums around the world, they have been successfully reproduced in perfect quality with the use of digital technology in a photo shoot ordered specifically for this reason. This advanced technology allows visitors to view the works of El Greco digitally in their actual size and high resolution.
Narration is available throughout the tour, offering a deeper insight to the Renaissance artist. The presentation is accompanied by comments on the artistic work of the painter as well as music compositions of the famous Greek composer Vangelis Papathanasiou and Spanish ecclesiastical music of the Medieval Era. The exhibition will continue until the end of May but there is also high chance that its duration will be expanded.
