Book Fair moves to Ermou street

May 14, 2009 — May 25, 2009 • Category: Events
The annual Book Fair that was held for years in the street of Dionysiou Areopagirou will move this year and will be organized in the paved part of Ermou street, between the traditional neighbourhood of Thissio and the developing area of Gazi. The upcoming inauguration of the New Acropolis Museum on Areopagitou street couldn't permit the organization of this Book Fair there, so a new area was chosen. This paved part of Ermou st, close to two metro stations (Thissio and Keramikos), will facilitate visitors and give a new cultural vibe to the historic centre of Athens. This is not the first time though that this Book Fair "moves". It was first inaugurated in Kifisia region, northern Athens, in the years after the Second World War. Then, it was held in Zappeion Megaron, in the centre of Athens, and a few years later in the Garden of Ares (Pedion Areos). When the restoration works started in Pedion Areos, then it was moved once again in Areopagitou street. Along with the Book Fair, there will be presentations of new books and cultural events in Melina Merkouri Foundation. The Book Fair will last for ten days, from May 14th to 25th.
