Aeschylia Festival 2024
The long-standing Aeschylia Festival is set to celebrate its 49th year from the 30th of August to the 26th of September 2024. The historic festival returns to the city of Elefsina, co-organized with the Eleusis European Capital of Culture for what promises to be an unforgettable cultural event.
The Old Oil Mill of Elefsina, with a stunning backdrop of Elefsina Beach, is going to serve as the stage for this year’s festival. The Committee of Aeschylia, comprised of local volunteers connected to the arts, has created a diverse program of performances, aiming to showcase a vast variety of art forms and appeal to a wide demographic. This year’s event includes theatrical performances, concerts, film screenings, and cultural proposals that highlight contemporary expression and creativity.
Theatrical performances of the ancient Greek tragedies "The Bacchae" and "Herakles", written by Euripides, will take the stage, as will more contemporary plays. Musical performances by artists from all over the country are sure to excite music lovers, with notable names such as Eleonora Zouganeli, the Thessalonikian folk band Banda Entopica, the Cretan groups Chainides and Social Waste, and many more. Finally, the list of films that will be screened includes the 2022 drama "Behind the Haystacks" directed by Asimina Proedrou, the 2023 film adaptation of Alexandros Papadiamantis’ seminal novel "The Murderess", and a myriad of short films.
