Cypriot Art Museum
The Pierides Museum of Ancient Cypriot Art in Athens: The Pierides Museum of Ancient Cypriot Art was created in 1980 and it is the first museum in Greece dedicated to the presentation of the Cypriot culture and its connection with the Greek culture. Some of its exhibits are 9,000 years old and all of them depict the Cypriot culture dating from the Prehistoric till the Modern times.
These items consist of sculptures, ceramics, engravings, and about 1,000 paintings, not only from ancient times but also from the Second World War, created by Cypriot and Greek artists. The pieces of pottery that it hosts are also remarkable.
The exhibits come from many important sources, such as six state museums of Cyprus and the Archaeological Museum of Athens. Note that some exhibits are displayed for the first time in this museum. Another interesting thing to mention is that the museum has a library of Modern Greek and Cypriot Art. The Pierides Museum of Ancient Cypriot Art can be found in Athanais Cultural Venue, Votanikos. Since 1983, the museum organizes educational programs for children in order to promote their contact to the ancient civilizations of Cyprus and Greece.
