Pelion
is rich with religious celebrations and local festivities,
keeping its traditions with great love. The many religious
festivals and feasts gather locals from the all regions
as well as many foreigners.
For example, on May Day is celebrated the feast of “Maidon”
which has kept Dionysiac merrymaking and characteristic
and symbolic elements from ancient myths about Adonis
and Dionysus.

custom
is the religious festival
of Agios Ioannis the Loulouditis (the
Flowered
One) on the 8th
of May during which flowers
are blessed by the priests in all the churches of the
region and given to the silkworms
to help them produce good cocoons.
Peliot
Weddings are also an interesting traditional custom.
It has been kept by some villages such as Portaria,
Ano Volos and Katochori: the procession accompanied
by folk instruments, taking the groom to the bride’s
house.
