Pelion Byzantine monastery of Agios Lavrentios:
The Byzantine monastery called ‘Agios Lavrentios’ was built in 1378 and it was named after the monk Lavrentios, who came from the monastery of Athos in Meteora and built it. Every year on the 15th and 16th of August there is a large celebration to the memory of the monk, to which people from all Greece attend.
The monastery of Agios Lavrentios belongs to the homonymous village, built at 550m height and at approximately 20 km distance from Volos, the capital of Pelion. It is one of the most beautiful villages in the area, with many antique mansions and a spectacular nature to enjoy. |
