rivers of Acheloos, Aspropotamos and Aliakmonas. The levels of difficulty in these rivers vary from 1 to 5.
Mountain biking can also be performed since the routes in Meteora traverse wild forests, clean steams, lakes and caves. Bikers usually cross Antichasia Mountains and get to the preserve of Vlachava. Many visitors also enjoy trekking. The most popular routes are those connecting the Monasteries of Meteora to each other. You can also follow some paths around Kalambaka town, which are usually rural and only a few cars cross them.
Have also in mind that a ski centre is found close to Meteora, the Pertouli Ski centre. It is placed between Koziakas and Loupata mountains and counts on ski lifts and tracks both for beginners and experts. The ski centre is very popular in winter and if you wish to spend the night there, it has a few chalets.
However, the sport by excellence in Meteora is climbing.
The awesome rock formations of the area attract climbers from all over the world. There are many available routes and you can get more information on them from the Alpine Club of Kalambaka, which was established in 1989 and is a tactical member of the Hellenic Federation of Mountaineering and Climbing. |
