 Mesolongi is located on the south-western coast of Etoloakarnania Prefecture, at the region of Sterea Ellada. The lagoons of Mesolongi and Etoliko, which were formed by the rivers of Evinos and Acheloos, make it a very important center of pisciculture, which is the base of the local economy. It is the capital of Etoloakarnania and counts on approximately 12,500 residents.
