Delphi Ancient Stadium

The Ancient Stadium of Delphi, Sterea: High up on the hill above the Temple of Apollo and the Ancient Theatre of Delphi, lies the Ancient Stadium, surrounded by wonderful lush greenery. This stadium was built in the 5th century B.C. but it was reconstructed many times in the centuries that followed. It got its present form in the 2nd century A.D. when Herodes Atticus financed the stone seatings and the arched entrance.

The stadium could seat around 6,500 spectators in the ancient times. The Pythian and Panhellenic Games would take place there, as well as various sports competitions and music festivals. The track of the stadium is 177.55 m long and 25.5 m wide. The path that leads from the theatre to the stadium was named via sacra.
