The inhabitants of Skopelos are trying to preserve their cultural heritage and traditions.
During religious feast days, the women wear the traditional costume of the island consisting in a long sleeveless silk dress with multicoloured embroidery on the edges, a fine short-sleeved silk chemise embroidered with gold and a head-dress with hanging gold coins. |

The most famous of the religious feast days are the feast of Agios Reginos (the patron saint of Skopelos) on 25 February at the church of the same name and the feast of Saint John the Baptist on the 24th of June, in the monastery of Agios Ioannis Prodromos.
Moreover,
the feast of Saint Barbara is celebrated on 4th of December in the monastery of Agia Varvara and the celebration at the monastery of the Metamorphosis (Transfiguration) is on August 6th. |

During all those feasts traditional music, dances and local food and wine are offered.
In summer, a musical festival is organized by the municipality of Skopelos where the famous skopelian Giorgos Xintaris sings rebetika.
There is also Loizia Festival in Glossa village, dedicated to the Greek music composer Manos Loizos.
Summer ends with the Plum Festival, where people dance, sing and bake plums while drinking local wine. |
