The first day on Skopelos, you walk in the beautiful village of Glossa, the main port and most tourist village on the island. Most tourist facilities on Skopelos are located there. Glossa has traditional architecture and nice fish taverns at the port. In a stone house, you will find the interesting museum of Cultural Heritage, worth a visit for its fine exhibits.
For a swim, you can stay in Glossa beach or go to Elios, a relaxing cove about 10 km south of Glossa. In the afternoon, drive to the church of Agios Ioannis Kastri, about 6 km east of Glossa. This is the famous church where the wedding scenes of the film "Mamma Mia!" (2007, starring Meryl Strip) were filmed. Located on top of a rock, the church is not usually open but it is a gorgeous site to see. From there, you get a nice view of the sunset.
Two days in Skopelos: Skopelos and Stafilos |
1st day as described above.
On the second day, visit Skopelos Town, the capital of the island. This village is less busy than Glossa, but equally beautiful, with stone houses and red tiled roofs. A couple of km on the east of the town, there are some beautiful Byzantine monasteries to visit, like the fortified monastery of Agia Varvara and the monastery of Evangelistria.
At noon, head to Stafilos, one of the most beautiful beaches of Skopelos about 4 km south of the town. This idyllic beach is actually a short, organized coastline, but the landscape is gorgeous: a pebbled beach at the end of a rocky hill and surrounded by lush trees.
Three days in Skopelos: Agnondas and Panormos |
1st and 2nd days as described above.
On the third day, go visit two other beautiful beaches of Skopelos, Agnontas and Panormos. They are both located on the south west of Skopelos Town. Both beautiful and relaxing, Agnondas is more organized and tourist, while Panormos is quieter.
