The Trip: I arrived on Skiathos by plane with First Choice. The trip was very good with no delays. The flight back was three hours delayed
Reasons for going to Skiathos: Have been to the Island twice before
My partner and I know Skiathos island very well having been twice before. This trip we still managed to find new restaurants, beaches and places to visit. In fact it was the best trip so far - we love the island very much. We rented a scooter this time and it just made our holiday seem more relaxed and free - we explored the island more and just felt independent and care free. We stayed this time in Kolios at the Eleni Apartments - which were just perfect - apart from the grumpy owner - the rooms were very clean and well kept - with daily cleaning, bed changing three times a week and clean towels twice a week. We rented an electric fan from the grumpy owner and this made sleeping and getting ready to go out in the evenings very comfortable and cool.
Planatis (Spelling?) Beach is just the best!! We went there everyday, everyone who works on the beach - the lady in the little kiosk the sells the ice creams and water - she is SO friendly and always has a smile and says good morning. I fact all the staff who work on the beach - were always polite and friendly, the hunky boat hire man with the sun glasses and the tan was very easy on the eyes too. The staff in the restaurant at the end of the beach were fabulous, the lady who sit behind the till, the smiley waiter with the curly black hair, his name began with the letter A - can't remember - we ate there most days - the food is really good - a little bit more expensive but everything was so fresh and tasty - the best Greek Salad on the island - and the coolest beer served in a iced glass straight from the freezer - perfect in the afternoon when you need a break from the sunbathing. They need to get the wasp problem sorted out in the restaurant - it can be off putting every five seconds swatting wasps away from your food. On our last afternoon here they gave us a huge plate of fresh watermelon on the house at the end of our meal - they all wished us a safe trip back and said they look forward to seeing us next year.
It felt this time like they were far TOO many English people on the Island - I came on holiday to get away from my fellow country men - it seems us English have discovered the island, and now flock in there thousands - and a lot of middle aged people and this was not the case a couple of years ago. I hope the English will not ruin the place - there’s a few too many "ENGLISH BREAKFAST" being served in restaurants. Previous trips they have always been a lot of young Italian and Greek people holidaying. There’s a local bar called "PANO" - this guy needs to get out more!! This guys needs to laugh and lighten up - he works too hard serving drunk English people who just want to hang out in his bar and fall off the stools after too many bad cocktails - this guy needs some lessons in cocktail making - I had the worst Margarita I've ever tasted - I should have gone for the NO salt option - it tasted like sea water with a tiny twist of lemon - We found the view from "INFINITY BLUE" restaurant just breath taking. We booked a table in the restaurant and said to the owner we were celebrating an anniversary and he gave us the best table in the restaurant and brought flowers to the table - they really looked after us and made us feel very welcome - the food was fantastic too - it's well worth a visit - go before the sun sets to make the most of the view. I really could go on and on - we had the best time ever.
