The best area in Skiathos is Koukounaries. The beach sand is a light golden colour and the water is clean. The beach in front of the Skiathos Palace resort is very clean and the water is ideal for swimming (no sudden drops in depth). We dined at the Skiathos Palace hotel. The price is upscale and the food was excellent. The chicken was moist and tender and the feta impeccable and the fruits and vegetables were fresh and ripe.
I would recommend staying in Koukounaries. Less crowded and it is surrounded by beautiful trees. The area also contains smaller beaches and coves which are very quaint. Its nice to see that the Greek authorities have preserved this environmentally sensitive area in Koukounaries.
Just the port area (where ferry docks) could be serviced better for those wishing to obtain a taxi to their resort. There was a taxi stand, but people have a tendency to ignore it and just jostle for a taxi instead.
