Local
festivities are taking place with music, food and drink
during the celebration of the Assumption of the Virgin
(14th and 15th of August); the procession of the epithaph
(burial) of the Virgin at the monastery of Evangelistria
on the 15th of August is also worth seeing.
During the summer various cultural events are organized
by the local council on the peninsula of Bourtzi, located
between the old and the new harbour.

On its old stone building exhibitions of photography
and various other art collection from Greek artists
are held and in its
open-air theatre are organized various performances
such as nallets, concerts, film projection and traditional
Greek shadow-theatre (Karagiozis).
On the peninsula are also some tradiotnional Greek cafes
where, during some evenings, live traditional music
is performed.
