The simple and functional traditional architecture of Skiathos is completely different than the traditional Cycladic architecture usually identified with the Greek Islands; Skiathian houses have three parts consisting in the ground floor used for different kinds of storage, the middle floor used as the family’s main residence and the upper floor where the rooms were.

Another category of churches can be observed in the island; they are built according the plain folk style, with techniques borrowed from Pelion, but they are few.
