Sporades Museums

Sporades museums

Information about the Museums in Sporades islands, in Greece but also information about museums in many islands of the group: Apart from their unique natural beauty, the history of Sporades islands is also of high interest. Historical evidence show that Sporades Islands were inhabited from the Palaeolithic age and several traces were found on the island of Alonissos island. Interesting items were also found on the island of Skopelos island, although today there is no archaeological museum on these islands. The exhibits from the Sporades islands are hosted in the Archaeological Museum of Volos or in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.

Although there are no archaeological museums in Sporades, except from a small archaeological collection in Skyros, there are many interesting folklore museums. In Skiathos island, do not miss the Museum of Alexandros Papadiamantis, a famous Greek scholar of the 19th century. This museum was actually the house of Papadiamantis and includes many personal items of the writer and his family. Very interesting are also the Museum of Cultural Heritage in Skopelos, the Faltaits Museum in Skyros and the Mavrikis Museum in Alonissos, all hosting interesting folk items.
