For that reason, the houses of Patititri are all recent and give a different image than of the other Greek islands which usually have a little and very picturesque harbour, full of traditional Cycladic or Venetian houses. Nevertheless, Patitiri is far to be an ugly village.
Even new, its buildings are built amphitheatrically and keep a certain harmony and the hotels built in the town are discrete and do not mar the natural beauty of the landscape.
Narrow whitewashed streets and stairs give a particular atmosphere to this little harbour, surrounded by incredibly crystalline emerald waters and rocky marble formations well illuminated during the night.
The whole village is surrounded by dense pine forest. On the seafront, a little sandy beach shares some of its calmness with the taverns and little cafes boarding the harbour. Public services are located in Patitiri, such as the post office, the health centre and the Euronature Information Centre on Environmental Protection.
A good range of supermarkets, bakeries, chemists and other little shops can be found in Patitiri, in the two main streets staring from the harbour. The efforts made by the EURONATURE Fund, the Alonissos Cultural Movement and the locals are fructuous.
They managed to conserve the natural environment without reducing tourism, which gives to Alonissos and to Patitiri a peaceful and calm atmosphere only disrupted by a few sound of motorbikes.
