Many small churches and chapels are scattered around the island, embellishing the landscape with their glimmering whiteness and their beautiful, spare lines.
All those little marvels can be visited.
It is a real pleasure to discover them, while they lay hidden among the dense vegetation and proudly shinning under the sun.
The most imposing and important building of the ecclesiastical
buildings in Poros is the Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi. |
 |
It was founded in the 18th century by the then Bishop of Athens Iakovos and is lying hidden between the dense and verdant pine trees.
The main church of the monastery is a small, high-domed chapel which sits in the middle of the courtyard.
It houses an incredibly large wood-carved iconostasis decorated with paintings from the gospel and which is framed by two 19th century smaller icons.

Located in the heart of Poros Town, the capital of the island, the beautiful little whitewashed church of Agios Georgios (Saint George) is worth-seeing for the treasures it houses: wonderful frescoes painted by one of the most renowned modern painters of Greece, Constantine Parthenis. |
