Saronic Museums

Saronic museums

Information about the Museums in Saronic islands, in Greece but also information about museums in many islands of the group: The Saronic Islands are associated with many ancient sites and important archaeological findings that enrich the museums collections. Aegina island is home to the Archaeological Museum, the first museum ever established in Greece which provides visitors a great amount of ancient remains, ruins and inscriptions from the Neolithic period. This museum also hosts findings from the many ancient sites of Aegina, including the Temple of Athena Aphaia, the Temple of Apollo (Kolona) and the Sanctuary of Ellanios Zeus.

A very interesting museum in Spetses island is the Museum of Bouboulina, a local heroine that contributed a lot in the Greek War of Independence (1821). This museum was actually the home of Lascarina Bouboulina and includes impressive furniture from Venice, ship models, letters and personal objects of the family. Particularly interesting is also the Historical Archives Museum in Hydra, housed in a stone mansion just above the port.
