We sailed into the port of Hydra so we spent a lot of time at the marina. The beaches closest to the marina are rocky - not much in way of atmopsphere - but there are lots of swanky cafes and tavernas overlooking the water. The village of Hydra was lovely, with all the whitewashed alleyways and blooming flowers and trees. The ban on motorized vehicles adds to Hydra's charm. Great sunset views from the marina! We ate at the tavern Garden of Taste. The ambience was wonderful, the food decent - nothing special but the usual Greek fare and good service. We also cooked on our boat and found that the supermarkets offered lots of fresh food. There is one gyro cafe (like a fast food restaurant) tucked away in the corner of the marina where the sailboats dock that served excellent gyros and ice cream that really hit the spot! Our best activity was hiking to the Monastery of Prophet Elias. Difficult hike but the views are worth it!
