GENERAL INFORMATION

Hydra is a very charming Saronic Island and a top holiday destination for Greeks and foreigners alike.

The picturesque and elegant Hydra Town, the exquisite waters at the beaches, the lively nightlife, the many places of cultural and historical interest and its proximity to Athens are the top reasons why people select the island for their holidays.
The island is considered a cosmopolitan destination. with many celebrities choosing it for their vacation or a getaway.
However, the islanders have not allowed the development of tourism to alter their enticing home. That is why gigantic hotel units with vast premises are not part of the local tourist infrastructure.

The most common type of accommodations in Hydra are boutique hotels and guesthouses which used to serve as residencies. Many old mansions have been renovated internally and now work as accommodations retaining the noble flair of the past.
Hydra Town is home to almost all accommodations, but a few places to stay are located in Mandraki and Vlichos. In Mandraki, specifically, one can find the most luxurious hotel on the island - Mandraki Beach Resort.

Lastly, note that staying in Hydra is pricey, especially during the high season. Not all hotels and accommodations are extremely expensive, but in no case can the island be characterized as a budget-friendly destination. People who want to see the island but do not want to spend much money per overnight stay are recommended to either visit during the shoulder- or low season or book a hotel in another place that is connected to the island via ferry, like Poros or Ermioni.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQ)

When should I book my hotel?

We recommend booking your stay at your earliest convenience. If you plan on visiting during the high season (June to September), the safest thing to do is to have your reservation completed by the end of April.

Where should I book my hotel?

Greeka.com is an online traveling guide about Greece and the Greek islands operating since 1999. We have hand-picked the best hotels on the island and have included them and presented them on our website. By clicking the “Book online” button, you will either, in case of affiliate links*, be redirected to Booking.com and booking.com will handle your reservation or in case of sponsored links, you will be redirected to the official hotel website, where the hotel will handle the reservation. In both cases, there is no extra fee charged to you for this. *Booking.com pays a small commission to us for every booking which helps us to continue our qualitative work and provide you with the best possible information.

Is there another way to make a hotel reservation?

You can contact the hotel by phone or e-mail. In some cases, you might find some cheaper prices, but it is not recommended.

When is the best time to visit Hydra?

If you want to avoid the hustle and bustle, late May and late September are the ideal periods. In any other case, June, July and August are the best months.

Will I find last-minute availabilities?

Most certainly not, especially if you want to visit between June and September. Hydra is one of the top destinations in Greece and people book their stay months in advance in order to stay at their hotel/accommodation of choice.

What types of accommodation are available in Hydra?

Locals have not allowed tourism to alter the island's picturesque architecture and that applies to accommodations, too. Most accommodations in Hydra are traditional buildings that have been renovated and can now be booked - some have been turned into hotels, others into guesthouses. You will not find deluxe hotels with several facilities in Hydra Town, except for the 5-star Mandraki Beach Resort which is located only 2 kilometers away from the port.

Is Hydra expensive?

In one word, yes. Hydra is a cosmopolitan destination that attracts, among others, many famous and rich people. Along with Spetses, they are considered the upscale Saronic Islands.

How much does accommodation cost?

Excluding the most expensive options, an average estimation for two visitors would be around 150-200 euros per night during summer.

Where is the best place to stay if you are traveling on a budget?

The majority of places to stay are situated in Hydra Town and around it. Individuals who plan on traveling on a budget are advised to refer to 2- and 3-star accommodations and avoid visiting the island in the high season.

Which are the best luxury hotels?

As said, Hydra doesn't offer many luxury options. However, for those who want to stay in an opulent hotel, Mandraki Beach Resort and Hydrea are the best options.
