Agistri is one of the islands Argosaronikos Gulf, called the Saronic Group of islands, along with Spetses, Hydra, Poros, Salamina, and Aegina. This group of islands counts on the advantage of being close to the area of Athens, the capital of Greece.
In fact, the Saronic isles can be easily reached from Piraeus port by hydrofoil. The whole group share incredible features for tourists, such as the stunning landscapes, clean beaches, crystal blue waters, beautiful beaches, exciting night life, and interesting museums. |

Tourists visiting museums in this country can have a contact with the Greek arts of all times – Byzantine, Hellenistic, Mycenean, Neolithic, Classical or Minoan art pieces mix up with modern manifestations of art displayed in the almost than two hundred and fifty museums all over Greece.
Unfortunately, there are no folklore or art museums on Agistri island, which may take aback the unprepared tourist. Or, in fact, there are no traditional museums on this small island. |
 |
However, the isle itself can be considered a big permanent art and folklore display, as the local’s ancient habits still remain – such as the economical activities, the residents’ garments, and the warm hospitality of the people on Agistri.
Moreover, the numerous antique Orthodox churches, big and small, are art museums in their own right. They show awesome domed buildings, with colourful mosaics, painted icons, and interesting frescoes dedicated to the numerous Orthodox Greek Church Saints. |
