In brief, there is no airport in Aegina, so the only way to get to the island is by taking the ferry.

Aegina is a charming island in the heart of the Saronic Gulf, and its proximity to Athens makes it a great destination for a short getaway. There are three ports on the island. The main port of Aegina, which is located in Aegina Town, receives ferries throughout the year, connecting the island to the port of Piraeus in Athens, the Saronic islands of Agistri and Poros, as well as the enchanting town of Methana in the eastern Peloponnese. Souvala is the second busiest port on the island, at a distance of 8 km from Aegina Town. It is connected by ferry to the port of Piraeus, but only during the peak season (May to September). The port of Agia Marina is located on the eastern side of the island, around 13 km from Aegina Town. It is the number-one tourist resort on the island, and, like Souvala port, it is connected by ferry to Piraeus only during the summer.

  • How long is the duration of the trip?

From Piraeus to the main port of Aegina, the duration of the trip varies from a minimum of 40 minutes to a maximum of 1 hour and 25 minutes, depending on the type of vessel. From Piraeus to Agia Marina port, the trip lasts 30 minutes. Both high-speed/catamaran and conventional ferries serve the route to the main port of Aegina, while the route to Agia Marina is operated exclusively by high-speed vessels.

  • How much do the tickets cost?

A standard ticket to the main port of Aegina costs between €10.50 and €19, depending on the type of vessel, while a standard ticket to Agia Marina costs €19.

  • What ferries operate from Athens to Aegina?

Both high-speed/catamaran vessels run by Blue Star and conventional ferries run by San Lorenzo Ferries operate this route.

> Conventional Ferries
Conventional ferries are large vessels with deck seats as well as indoor lounges. Moreover, they dispose of large garages, capable of carrying a great number of vehicles, so you can take your car or motorbike with you. There are also snack bars, where you can get coffee, refreshments and snacks. They are the best option if you are traveling with a pet, as there are designated areas for pets. They are very popular, as they are more economical, and they are rarely affected by bad weather conditions, so they usually run on time. On the downside, they tend to be slower than high-speed ferries

Types of seats: Economy Lounge/Deck
Price range: €5.50 - €9.00 (Moto), €24.00 (Car), €27.00 (Small truck)
Timetable: During the summer season, there are 3 daily connections from Piraeus for this type of vessel.

> High-speed Ferries
High-speed ferries are smaller in size, as well as faster than conventional ferries. There are no deck seats, so they only have numbered airplane-type seats. A snack bar is also available. The high-speed vessels serving this route do not dispose of a garage, so it is not possible to travel with a vehicle. Unfortunately, due to their small size, high-speed vessels are more easily affected by bad weather conditions, so there may be delays.

Types of seats: Air Seats (Economy)
Price range: €19.00
Timetable: There are at least 9 daily connections between Piraeus and Aegina Port for this type of vessel.
