It is more traditional. However, it is a pretty town to go for a coffee or for a walk. You will live the small port and the taverns around it. Also some gift shops have unique things to buy. I got a calendar with photos of Crete with me and a book with the history of the island. Just...

Milos: Windmill

I came back in Italy but my soul remined in Tripiti, in the windmill of Evripides, the family which owns the restaurant "Methismeni Politia" (Drunken City).
At down I saw an old man going slowly to the port with his donkey, in the evening I met Mrs Evripides who spoke me only Greek and I felt that if I had payed enough attention I would have found the way to understand, inside my soul. From as much as we saw, I can tell that Mytilene is a lovely town. I was particularly impressed by its mosques, although they don't work today. I am a Muslim myself and I was surprised to see so many mosques on a Greek island. I must have counted three or four mo...

Andros: A lovely fishing village

Gavrio is the port of Andros. It is the first town you meet when you enter the island. And the impression is good. Itactually looks like a fishing village. There are fishing boats in the harbour and old fishermen unfolding their nets. Some fish taverns line the dock and lovely cafeterias offer a precious cold drink, after so much heat in Greece! The gist shops are lovely and people do not press...

Santorini: Oia Santorini

I feel so happy that i visited such a beautiful place. the sunset was amazing as was the place. When I was young, I kept listening about the hard Cretan men who get too angry once they are offended, who abduct their woman and who do anything to protect their honour.
<br>
At first, I didn't believe him. I thought that all these stories were told with a lot of enthusiasm from him and maybe with a ...

Skyros: Walk to the Castle

The capital is really the best village to stay on Skyros. The rest are small villages in the middle of nowhere, good only for a visit and some are difficult to go. You will love the walks around the narrow paths of Skyros and lying on the beach. You can go to the beach on foot, not far at all. Take a coffe at hand and walk to the Castle. From there, you will get great pictures.

Zakynthos: A town with great culture

The town of Zakynthos is just lovely. Beautiful squares and neoclassical buildings, cafeterias with excellent views to the castle and many gift shops to stroll around. I especially loved Bochali, it is a suburb of Zakynthos with green trees and some hills to overview the area. Visit the houses of Solomos and of Xenopoulos, they will give you a good aspect of the town's culture.

Poros: Amazing in every sense

A amazing town! I have no words to describe it!! Great buildings, beautiful squares and statues all over it, the best Greek food! I enjoyed so much my weekend on Poros that I look forward to go back soon. The mermaid at the waterfront was so lovely and innocent, I have taken more than ten photos of this single statue. I thought Adamas was more appropriate for tourists. Plaka is nice to go for a walk and have a coffee. But there are no big bars to have fun, just some pubs spread here and there. It has some places to stay, but I would advice you to choose somewhere close to the beach and especially if you are young and crazy for nightlife.

Syros: Buy loukoumia before you leave

Ermoupolis is the most beautiful town on Syros. I loved the big, impressive buildings inspired by the Greek antiquity, with those tall columns and many floors. Try Archontariki restaurant for nice baklava and when you leave the island buy loukoumia to offer to friends. There you will see some old houses that should need reconstruction, narrow routes to climb up, lovely stairs and gardens with nice flowers. Too many stores and too much traffic was the dominant sight all around. The cars would make much noise and didn't let you enjoy a coffee at the waterfront. Personally, I prefered the quiet villages of south Crete more than its busy towns. I think a good reason to go to Heraklion is to see the Castle and eat cheap and fresh se...
