Paros: Beautiful villages

You cannot visit Paros and not even pass by Naoussa. Naoussa is a beautiful village, located on a huge bay, in northern Paros. As you can easily understand from the hundreds of boats at the bay, this is a fishing place.

Wherever you go in Naoussa, bay, narrow streets, churches, beach, still this is one of the best p...

Santorini: The most romantic sunset

Thinking about Santorini... the first thing that always comes in my mind is the sunset. The island is famous all over the world for its spectacular sunsets and the best place to enjoy these sunsets is Oia village.

Many locals and tourists, visit Oia in Santorini every evening, seating at the coffee shops or in a...

Chania: Delicious local drinks

Chania town is probably the most beautiful town in Crete. Keeping all the Venetian culture and architecture, the buildings give a strange, forgotten and romantic feeling. The Old Town of Chania is divided in many neighborhoods and districts, with many mansions, churches, squares, cafes and restaurants.
Kefalonia: Wonderful Assos

Just got back from a wonderful, restful seven days in Assos. We stayed at the Cavos Inn and what an absolutle treasure of a place. Location is perfect as to sit and view the wonderful scenery whilst enjoying your breakfast is something my wife and I will look back on with great pleasure. Local tavernas are all good to dine at and the North Restaurant was especially a lovely , friendly place to ...

Heraklion: Still traditional and lovely

Two summers ago, we stayed in Chania but this time we chose Hersonisos to spend our holidays. A small, nice village close to Heraklion, but still traditional.

What I love mostly in Greece is not the beaches, but how (old) people wake up early in the morning and go to the square to read their paper drinking a hot Greek coffee, even in the middle of the summer. How grandpas go their grandchil...

Rethymno: Swimming and hiking

The area of Rethymno is more quiet and traditional than Chania or Heraklion. We spent four days in Agia Galini last year, on our tour around Crete. This is a small fishing village actually but it has developed in tourism: a lot of rooms to rent, hotels, organized beaches, gift shops, but still not as crowded as Hersonissos.

The only difficult thing about Agia Galini is how you go there. It ...

Mykonos: Crowded and expensive

We spent just one evening in Mykonos as we stopped with a cruise ship there, so we had not much time to see all the island and preferred to stay in the Town. The place was picturesque, with labyrinth streets and small cubic houses. The architecture was beautiful, but there were no flowers and no parks. It was also very clean, situated in a valley by the sea, with local artisan activity. It is a...

Heraklion: Try the legendary Cretan diet

Hersonissos, where we stayed for two weeks, is a perfect holiday beach location. Also, wonderfully quiet at this time (May) of year. We also spent a week in the mountains inland. My main interest is in wild herbs, for which Crete is famous, but there is so little guidance for the tourist on this. Also Minoan remains, absolutely fantastic- Gortis, Knossos, but best of all Phaestos.

In Herakl...

Kos: Avoid drunken tourists

Tour operators have changed deeply the costumes of many places in Kos. Kardamena look like a Liverpool surrounding with drunken English boys singing football songs. I suggest you take better control of the drunken guys and do not let them driving without hamlet. The all inclusive is the best way to destroy local economy, especially taverns, and offer low quality dishes. Many taverns were closed...

Rethymno: Create nudist beaches

Plakias is a nice place to relax. If you really want to relax on Crete, go to the southern side. Villages are nicer there and more peaceful. On the northern side (Malia, Hersonissos, Elounda), resorts are busier due to the clubs.

Plakias, though, is small and cozy with picturesque beaches around it and delicious fish taverns by the beach. Grilled fish is expensive but worth it. I prefer it ...

Amorgos: Fishing boats with full nets

Amorgos was exactly what we needed for our vacations: peaceful, nice and quiet. Most of all beaches, I liked Aegiali. This is a small village at the northern side of the island with a quiet cozy beaches. You will love the taverns and the meals in Aegiali and you will see many fishing boats to come with their nets full of fish and lobsters.
Chios: Appreciation for small things

I am afraid I have nothing special to write about Chios, other than what has been mentioned so far from the previous reviewers. I just want to stress out how much I loved this island and how desperately I want to go back! My first visit on Chios was five years ago to visit Vrontados, the village where my grandparents (emigrants to the USA) lived. Myself I am a proud Greek-American who wants to ...

Lefkada: Hear the waves at night

Vassiliki is a good location to stay in Lefkada. We stayed in Dimitris Studios as we needed a small, average priced place to spend a week. In general, we prefer family-run studios to big hotels, as we like our vacations to be cozy and quiet. The beach was in a walking distance from out hotel but we also went to other beaches by car.

Buses are horrible in Lefkada and in most Greek islands, t...

Santorini: Be careful with prices
