General: Feel the history

Rhodes is an island that always reminds me of my teenage years since it is an old tradition here in Greece that during your last years in school you go a five day tour with your classmates and teachers. We were wearing huge sombrero hats and going all way round the magnificent medieval castle in the night (it is almost half of the city and it's a monument listed in Unesco!!) in the center of th...

General: Beautiful sites and locations

We visited Rhodes on our way to Mykonos. We stayed there for 5 days to see the island but of course we only managed some places, as it is so big. The island was clean, the beaches were gorgeous and the ancient sites sprawled over were marvelous. We had stayed at a boutique hotel in Rhodes city. This hotel was in fact in the Old Town in the city. Here we got to see some splendid medieval archite...

General: Wonderful sites and museums

Rhodes is absolutely fantastic. Clean beaches, excellent roads, beautiful sites and villages and a lot of historical monuments. Everything which has to be seen was easy to reach. When this east coast road is finished, it will be even better. The Old Town is a beauty itself, every time we visited we found something new to see. Visit the museums to get a real view of the island's culture. My chil...

Beaches: Extend opening hours of monuments

The trip to Rhodes was very long (18 hours by ferry) but fortunately there were no delays. Last summer, we had travelled by ferry again and the departure was 2 hours late. We had been more tired of the delay than the trip. Fortunately, this time all went good.

We love all the greek islands but and we are coming for relaxing every year. This time we were looking for something more traditiona...

General: Limited options for vegeterians

The Greek people were very friendly and we enjoyed meeting many of them. We stayed in Rhodes Old town at The Spot Hotel, which was an excellent location and good, clean accomodation. Old Town is very cool, although more commercial, crowded and loud at night (from the bars) than we expected. We enjoyed walking/running in the moat. In May, the wildflowers were in bloom in <a href="http://www.gre...

Beaches: No such thing as bad Greek meal

I am in my 60's and therefore I prefer mostly te village life and no music bars and discos, rather a relaxed nightlife. We stayed in Afandou village on our vacations to Rhodes, about two years ago. The beaches was beautiful and pretty crowded in late August.

People in taverns and gift shops were friendly, although sometimes I would feel some pressure to buy. Food was excellent but dishes w...

Villages: Too little time to see it all

I was there in high season, July. A friends' wedding was the actual cause of my visit, since they had come to the island for their honey moon and they recommended it to me. So, I came.

I stayed in a small family-run hotel in Lindos, which gets quite popular with tourists. This is a beautiful place with a fascinating history, lovely shops, wonderful restaurants and nice clean bars. Concerning...

General: A versatile island

I was looking for a quite and peaceful place away from mass tourism...and I have chosen Rhodes, not exactly what I was looking for. But I have not regret it, although some places were not of my taste, such as Faliraki. I found it awful. Cheap and tacky streets, selling cheap and tacky souvenirs.
The Old town in Rhodes is worth a visit, and so is Lindos. Also go to the south of the island whe...

Villages: Discover the small treasures

The entire island is of course beautiful with its beaches and castles and traditional villages, but for me the highlight is Rhodes Town. This is such a romantic town!! It surely gets very busy in summer and people are almost... tumbling each other as they walk on the streets but if you let yourself free from your problems, you will enjoy a pleasant atmosphere and a chilly sea breeze that you ra...

Beaches: Bad kind of nightlife in Faliraki

Faliraki beach was toooo large and pure sandy. We stayed in a hotel there and had views to the beach anytime. I could see that most time it was crowded, from early in the morning till almost midnight. Some beach bars stayed open all night long but I didn't like that kind of nightlife, as only drunken tourists usually stayed till that long. You could often hear crazy screams in the middle of the...

Villages: Famous for its medieval architecture

I didn't stay much in Rhodes because I went to attend a conference, not for vacations. I just stayed for three days, so I saw only the town, which I found amazing. I love towns with strange architecture, so Rhodes Town was the perfect place for me. The Medieval Castles, the Old Town, the cozy cafeterias in narrow streets, the Street of the Knights... how nice memories!! People there were also g...

General: My favorite island

Rhodes is probably my favorite island. I haven't been to other favorites like Crete, Santorini, or Mykonos, but out of the ones I've been to (Milos, Kefalonia, Simi, Lefkada, etc.), Rhodes is my favorite. Milos was beautiful too, but Rhodes had more beauty since it was bigger. I definetely reccomend going on a boat trip to Rhodes, renting a car, seeing the picturesque Old Town, Lindos, and vis...

General: Tidier villages

I was in Rhodes last July with my husband. We stayed in the beautiful village of Lindos. The historical monuments there were very interesting and the beach wonderful. The local food was very good, we liked dinner in typical taverns, although menus were not much different. It was all nice in general, but we think the villages should be tidier. My recommendation is to hire a car and discover the i...

General: Twice in Rhodes

I have visited Rhodes twice and I found it very pretty, easy to get round, nice food. If you have children, though, choose a child friendly resort, since many beaches are not kiddie friendly. The food was also good but not cheap. I won't be eating feta cheese for a while! Good supermarkets for picnics. I am not a fishy fan but it is really super if you like that sort of things. Be prepared for...

Villages: Nice memories from Ialysos

Ialysos was one of the loveliest villages on Rhodes. Green scenery, wonderful beaches and great hospitality. The food was also exquisite, I have been cooking Greek food since I came home. In Lindos, we stayed in Andrianna Apartment Bar and loved relaxing by the pool, listening to Greel music. The earthquake was also an unforgettable experience while I was on Rhodes, but furtunately it was not s...
