General: Interesting visit

As soon as we reached Mystras, we saw a nice square with plane trees and a couple of restaurants in the square. The road to the Byzantine Castle made a lot of sharp turns and we had to be very careful. But the view from up there to the plain of Sparti were enough to draw our attention, so make sure to keep your eyes on the road. The castle has two entrances: the main entrance where we saw the C...

General: Lovely site and village

We visited Mystras on a one day trip, while we were in Sparta. Mystras is only some km away from Sparta and we thought to spend a day there. Mind that the Mystras itself is uninhabited! The castle was left abandoned after the Turkish dominations and at the moment there are no citizens at all inside the castle. Walk...

General: Do not miss Keadas Cave

We visited Mystras last August but we arrived there late, as the site was about to close (it closes at seven in the evening). So, we just saw it from a hill above. The modern village of Mystras was very picturesque and had old, stone buildings. The square was dominated by traditional mansions, which had turned into hostels, and grilled steak was smelling all over. Three minutes on foot from the...

General: It gives a medieval sense

Mystras is a nice archaeological site close to Sparta. We were there this August as part of our driving around Peloponnese. Climbing to the top of Mystras was quite tiring, as it was a terribly hot morning. (Going down was certainly easier and much quicker!). So, if you want to see Mystras all over it, better go in the evening, at around 5 o'clock as the site closes at 7. It needs about two hou...
