Mykonos is a very beautful island. I have been for 28yrs and have seen many changes, but still lovely best beaches in Greece. The Greeks call Mykonos the island of love and happiness, and that's what it is, a very happy place. Don't go in August though as it is too crowded and you can't really enjoy what Mykonos has to offer you. Winter can be nice also, if you like quietness. Mykonos has something special, I believe.
