General: If peace is all you need

Not to wonder why Ulysses wanted so badly to come back to his home island Ithaca after my recent vacation there! The lack of tourist development has meant survival of a peaceful style of life which other obviously attractive Greek islands have lost nowadays. There are tiny pebbly coves all around this small island, which has two harbours Frikes and Kioni. Along picturesque colourful old Venetia...

General: Remote and quiet

Our three days in Ithaca were enough to see a lovely, pure green island and relax. We went there after a week in Kefalonia and I have to say the two islands look a lot to each other: both green and relaxing, with wonderful beaches and villages, only Ithaca is less popular. Our studio was in Kioni, which is even more quiet than Vathi, the capital. On a hill above Kioni, there is a beautiful mona...

General: We did not want to leave

We liked Ithaca because it was not the typical Greek destination. If you are looking for sandy beaches and heavy nightlife, don't even think about it. But if you need to relax, then Ithaca is truly your place. The beaches were actually small coves but they were very beautiful, especially the ones you could approach only by boat. Food was fresh and homemade. Only hotel and store onwers could spe...

Food: Try seafood and pies

Excellent sea food on Ithaca and less expensive than I expected. Definitely try local spinach pie. Best restaurants Chani (great view to Kefalonia and Vathi) and Liberty Restaurant (located in Vathi next to Omirikon Hotel).

General: Pure Paradise

I have been to Ithaca many times before but still bought a travel guide to make sure I missed nothing! There is no place like the north of Ithaca. It's like stepping back in time with the stunning villages and amazing people who never forget you and you never forget. If you can get used to the pebbles, the beaches are idylic. Florindinos in Frikes is a good bar, great fun and still the place to...

General: Relaxing Ithaca

After a week in busy Kefalonia, we needed a few days in Ithaca to relax. This was our second trip to Ithaca as the first time we didn't have the chance to see all of it. Like Kefalonia, Ithaca is also very green but trully quiet. Rent a car from 2-3 days and visit its picturesque vilages, like Stavros and Kioni but prefer to rent a room in Vathy, as it is more central. Kioni has the best fish r...

Beaches: No words to describe Frikes

Frikes is one of the best beaches on Ithaca. Picturesque and clean with a wonderful, sandy coast. Better go early in the morning or late in the evening to avoid much crowd. You will love this beach, it is my best memory from Ithaca. It was just sad to see so many abandoned cars on the way to Frikes, please get rid of them, as they spoil the whole romantic atmosphere.

Villages: I did not want to leave

I didn't want to leave Ithaca this year!! It was my second time on the island and we stayed only for a couple of days, so I didn't get enough of Ithaca. Vathy is a great town and very green. In fact, the whole island is very green and has wonderful beaches. The best taverns though were in Vathy, by the port. We didn't visit many sights or museums, just enjoyed the beauty of this small town and ...

Beaches: The best on Ithaca

The best beach on Ithaca!! Very green and very clean!! When we went there, it was not very crowded so we liked it better. If you have a car, you may face a problem with parking, so you would better go by scooter. Also take flippers with you because the seafloor is rocky and you may hurt your feet.

General: Boring without friends

It was my wife's wish to spend our summer holidays in Ithaca. It was actually a green island but too quiet, there was no particular nightlife. We went by boat from Patras and I have to say that the vessel was old and the port of Ithaca needed reconstruction. The beaches were nice and clean but quite rocky. Loutsa beach was the only sandy one and suitable for the kids. Ithaca is a lovely island ...

General: Local people are fantastic

Many interesting things to see for such a small island. And its extremely beautiful. Loved the monastery of Katharon. There are small beaches everywhere which are very beautiful, clean and peaceful. Loved them all! Just be sure to take umbrellas with you since the beaches are not organized. Nothing further than that! Relax and enjoy it!
Dining in general was great, not many options for nightli...

Our wish to step and live a bit in Ithaki, a mithology island, was the reason we chose this particular island.
