Beaches: Great natural colours

On my trip to Halkidiki, I was invited to stay at a friend of mine in a village called Vourvourou. It is located at the second peninsula of Halkidiki, called Sithonia. This place combines perfect the mountain above the village with the bushy trees and the blue green, magnificent water of the beach. Between these tw...

General: Friendly and open people

A Greek friend first told me about Halkidiki. It is a peninsular region located to the north of Greece, close to Thessaloniki. I and my friends visited this beautiful place last year. We stayed at a hotel in Kallithea. This village has good beaches with endless rows of pine trees as their background. The cosmopolit...

General: Sandy beaches and pine trees

Beaches in Halkidiki are beautiful and clean. I personally love sandy beaches and pine trees so the best choice for me is Sithonia in Halkidiki. Villages and nightlife are better in Kassandra. There are no significant historical monuments in Halkidiki, especially compared to Sterea Elada, Atica, Peloponissos and is...

General: My holiday experiences

The other day I was standing at the check in desk at Thessonaliki Airport, there at the desk was a member of the airports staff. A very stern woman, with an even sterner look on her face weighing the bags as the passengers checked in. I thought to myself that we are defiantly going to be charged access luggage. There used to be a time when you could travel to Greece, buy what ever you liked ...

Beaches: No sights or extra services

The car trip to Halkidiki was pleasant and easy, although border crossing to Greece could be better organized, like a separate lane for EU citizens.
The region was lovely, we stayed in Vourvourou in a family hotel and the owner was very kind. Beaches in Halkidiki are good for families with little children, in gen...

General: No complain about anything

They told me that Halkidiki has the best beaches and this is true! They are all clean (one by one, with no exception), although I think that some of them could be more organized. Gerakini, for example, where we stayed was nice but there were not enough sun beds and umbrellas for everyone. Hotels were nice but most were actually apartments to rent, not big hotels with international standards. Fo...

General: Pebbles brush off your body

My father's family used to own a summer cottage in Ierissos. In 1965 I first visited the area and last year we wanted to go back. I searched the Internet for places to stay. The information was scarce and I had reserved a room at Maria's House. Somehow the reservation never was accepted and our concierge at the hotel in Thessaloniki graciously found us a wonderful resort in Ouranopolis.

Beaches: Easy and pleasant place

Easy, wonderful and pleasant Halkidiki...

I like Greek villages very much. Although the villages in Halkidiki are mostly resorts-like type, someone can always find places where the authentic athmosphere of the native Greeks grips you and you can feel in white and blue :) One of my favourite villages are placed in the eastern part of Sythonia (Vourvourou) and Athos (Ouranoupolis). As I have ...

Beaches: Drink ouzo by the beach

I go to Halkidiki almost every spring. I usually go on spring because it is more calm, only the locals and a few early tourists, but things are kept quiet. Hotels are also cheaper that time, as high season has not started (it starts in mid June in Greece). I have been to many resorts in Halkidiki but Gerakini is my best. It is almost in the centre of Halkidiki, so you can do many daily excursio...

Beaches: Relaxing resort for families

Halkidiki is beautiful, the beaches are long and sandy, nightlife is excellent. I didn't visit historical monuments, wanted to go to Athos but I was with my girlfriend and no women are allowed there. People are very pleasant and helpful in need. I stayed in a hotel in Gerakini this year. The local beach was great because there weren't so many people. I also played some tennis in local club and ...

General: Amazing places to see

Halkidiki is so big that you can't see all of it in a week or two. We have been there three times and still we discover new amazing places to see. You definitely need a cat to get around. The roads are very good and petrol quite cheap. This year we stayed in Ouranoupolis. If you go there, rent a boat and go around the beaches. Amouliani island is the best. Also, from 10 o'clock, there is a boat...

Beaches: Problem with parking seats

Pefkohori is a nice place, although a bit overcrowded in July. I personally prefer quieter beaches, like Pagliouri where there is also a camping site, if you like nature. The taverns by the beach were great and their prices normal. The only problem was that there were not enough parking places in most villages of Halkidiki.

Beaches: Not crowded at all in April

Vourvourou beach was very nice and very close to the apartment we had rent. In April, there were not many people, so we were almost alone at the beach. The village is pretty small, clear and quiet, in a few words it is a lovely destination! The taverns were good and the service excellent. People were friendly and they cook deliciously. However, not many taverns were open in April, I think they ...

General: Halkidiki is my heaven

Halkidiki is like heaven! For me, it has the best beaches and landscapes in northern Greece. Sithonia is a fantastic area. Just take care of your forests, because I was very sad to see that some of them were burnt down. The beaches of Halkidiki are gorgeous, my best is Lagomandra. Also Kassandra is nice village but something should be done with the traffic. Cars are stuck together for several m...

Beaches: Sandy Agios Mamas

Nice and very, very long. Sand was all over on Agios Mamas. Our accomodation was close so we were frequent visitors:)) Great tavern by the beach, Mr Manolis is an excellent cook and his specialite is melitzanes papoutsaki, I believe.
