However, when you arrive, pay attention to the taxi fares, they charged us three times more. Otherwise, our holiday was fine. Wonderful beaches, great food, nice people and lots of bars. We stayed in Elafonissos and rented a car to explore the rest of Crete. I liked be...

Monemvasia: Make excursions

We used Monemvasia as a base to do excursions around Laconia. Of course, Monemvasia is a lovely town itself but has little things to offer to tourists. Except for the castle and the old town, there aren't many other
sightseeings. After two days, there aren't any other things to do. On the other side, we didn't want to leave beacuse we loved our hotel. So we rented a car and made daily trips t...

Lassithi: I might buy a holiday house there

Lassithi is the most quiet and relaxing area of Crete. While the rest of the perfectures are too crowded for me, Lassithi has exactly those features to make my holidays special. I have been there two times for holidays and still find new things to do. This summer we stayed in a villa in Elounda and went to Spinalonga, a small islet that used to be a prison and a leprosy area. We also went to th...

Tinos: Pachia Ammos is the best beach

Tinos is not an island to have crazy nightlife but to enjoy swimming. It has a lot of nice beaches and the best is Pachia Ammos. Tinos is mostly an island for families with young children. Pyrgo is village was my favorite and I also enjoyed nice meals on Tinos. Great sea and beaches, good weather, many places to visit, traditional Greek food and good people. The green and blue landscapes were amazing and some villages very picturesque. There was not much nightlife for my taste, nor where there many activities to do. I'd say it's a peaceful and quiet island. However there are some things that shou...

Spetses: Fun bars

In Spetses I stayed with a friend whose family has a house there. That is how I describe this place. No exciting nightlife, not amazing archaeological sites, just a lovely area to spend some relaxing days. The local food was excellent, but what caused us some problems was the lack of car rentals...

Karpathos: Authentic Greek

We liked Karpathos because it still is authentic Greece, not overfloaded with mass tourism. Inhabitants are vere friendly and there are lovely beaches. For me, the best was St Nikolas but my husband liked Apella better. We visited many different tavernas and in overall the food was excellent. Good quality and prices. Definitely give a try to Glaros restaurant in St Nikolas beach.

There isn't much sightseeing to do in the area, except for some churches and villages. I found the beaches pretty rocky and pebbled, but very clear. This was the main reason. I had been to the island some years before and found that little has changed. Of course, we enjoyed the beaches a lot. We tried to stay away from the crowded town beach. The main drag in Sidari is like Blackpool - The Magic Wok, Karaoke Bars, People giving out flyers to get you in to places, jam packed, no sign of anything or anyone Greek. Three and a half hours out of Manchester saw the Air 2000 A321 preparing to descend on to the island of Skiathos. The island and its very short runway were now clearly visible below us.
