Kefalonia: Kouzina Taverna Trapezaki

We have eaten at the Koyzina Taverna since they opened their restaurant - 3 years ago. The taverna is run by the owners, Stelios and Denise, who always make you feel very welcome. The tradional Greek food they serve is excellent.

Mykonos: Check seafood before you order

Mykonos has the aspects which will suit a lot of holiday makers, quieter beaches and shining white villages or busy party beaches and large hotels. We chose a quiet cheap hoilday during the day, enjoyed a half day excursion to Delos close by and took an easy bus ride into town for food and clubs. Beautiful island with some sandy beaches. Taxis were reasonable although the locals mentioned there...

Naxos: The small tavern of Pirgaki beach

If you decide to spend some time on the beaches of the southern part of Naxos, you must go to the long beach of Pirgaki and to the small beach of Agios Georgios, near to the Cedar Forest.
At the eastern end of the sandy track along the beach of Pirgaki, you will find a small tavern, that is a paradise for the greek food lovers.
Stuffed pepper and tomatoes, chicken in red sauce, spaghetti, bo...

Zakynthos: Our favorite restraurants

Vardiola is considered to be one of the best restaurants of Zakynthos. We visited it three times. It is within ten minutes drive from Tsilivi on the way to Alykes, there are signs on the road that provide you with directions. There is a small beach with some grass and sun chairs. It is a pleasure to sit there at night...

Kos: Busy taverns have bad food

Unfortunately the offered food was mainly low quality. The harbour area in KOS is overloaded with tourist and also with restaurants. So the restaurants mainly make quick and low quality food. The "fresh" seafood was made from frozen product and had no taste. To get some really nice taverns, try those in small and remote beaches. Prefer any other month except from August and July, because things...

Mykonos: Fresh fish right by the sea

I think you will find good food everywhere in Mykonos, but the restaurants in Little Venice have the best and most special view. Taverns by the sea are found in every beach in all Greek islands, but only Mykonos has such a lovely neighbourhood like Little Venice.
Kalymnos: Delicious local recipes

From all the places I've visited in Greece (more than 20), I had the best meals in Kalymnos. Ingredients were of excellent quality and we found some strange yet delicious recipes, such as squids stuffed with tomatoes and rice and a nice omelette with tomatoes, onions, eggs and green pepper. I think the best restaurants are those close to the beaches, you will find the most fresh fish there.

Syros: Best fish on Galissas

I had the best meal on Galissas, grilled fresh fish especially cooked by Mr Giannis with green peppers, onion and oreganum. I couldn't stop tasting my figures. I was going there every day and eat the same food for three days. Excellent!! I don't remember the name of the tavern now, something with a mermaid...
Tinos: Use gestures with waiters

In Tinos, I loved the small restaurants by the beach. You could always find a delicious dish and a welcoming onwer there. Local wine was excellent. Most waiters were friendly (except a sad exception in a restaurant in Chora) but they would speak only Greek. If you were lucky, you could find a waiter speaking some English, but don't ask for other languages. Most communication will be done with g...

Skiathos: Improve service

There are some very good restaurants on the island. The best are the old traditional tavernas in the back streets of the town (eg. Folia). There are also lovely high-standard international style restaurants in the town, but unfortunately some of them are a disgrace, especially for the food. There has been a clear change for the worse in the last four years (since I've last been in the island). ...

Thassos: Fantastic dishes and sea food

During our stay on Thassos, we were dining in taverns every day. Fantastic fishes and sea food. try the grilled octopus in Kostas tavern, on the beach of Skala Rachoniou. Grilled octopus can be found everywhere on the island, but this one is the best. I'm sure everyone would like the fagri fush as well. Ouzo is the drink to accompany your Greek salad or tzatziki. Don't overdo it because it is a...

Arachova: Tasty dishes and products

What I enjoyed most in Arachova was the traditional recipes I tasted. There, you will find all kind of pies, from the traditional cheese and vegetable pies to zucchini and meat pies with a lot of spices. Another excellent fish recipe is Brigiani, having haddock and vegetables as its main ingredients. Also definitely try formaella, a kind of cheese that is only made in Arachova. You will love it...

Lesvos: A touching gesture

I stayed in Petra village this summer, a tiny village in the north of Lesvos. We rented a room in Loula's apartments and we found the owners very hospitable. The old lady owner seemed to like us but on the last day she really amazed us. She invited us to have dinner with her and she had prepared the most delicious dish I have tasted: onions stuffed with rice and mincemeat. The greatest dish by ...
