General: Our place for free camping

My first time of free camping was in Donousa, a small island close to Naxos and Amorgos. Donousa has some of the best beaches you have ever seen with calm waters, soft sand and natural green scenery. At the port, you will find taverns, mini market, bakery and cafeterias. This small bakery was our daily base for cheesepies and fresh bread.

Our base was at the beach, just 10 minutes from the ...

General: Walk to the naturist beaches

After reading up on Donoussa and its naturist beaches, we were keen on taking a holiday on this tiny Cycladic island that huddles under the much larger island of Naxos. We arrived by ferry at Stavros, the main town of Donoussa and were immediately surrounded by some landladies with rooms to let. Followed one of them into town and fixed the price after inspecting the room. After settling in, we ...

General: Happy people

I turned out that two weeks in Naxos were enough to see all the island and relax in the cool beaches, so some days we took the ferry to other small islands around Naxos. Donoussa was one of them. A tiny island about 1 hour from Naxos and with very clean water.

Although we didn't stay more than 6-7 hours in Donoussa, we walked a bit in the inland and saw the low hills, the short bushes and t...

General: For relax and quiet

I went for a day in Donoussa with ferry boat Skopelitis from Katapola Amorgos. We arrived there early in the morning (I think we arrived in Donoussa at 6.30-7.00 am) and went back to Amorgos in the evening. The first thing to do was having a nice frappe in the single coffee house that was open in the port that time a...

General: Tiny and romantic

My experience form Donoussa was about three summers ago. We actually spend a week in Naxos and 3 days on Donoussa, as the island is only 1 hour by ferry from Naxos. As it was June, Donoussa was almost empty. You could see only a few inhabitants in the coffee shops in the village and a couple of foreigners laying on the sandy beach close to the port. Things were absolutely quiet. In the afternoo...
