General: Gateway to childhood

I had been to Corfu some time in my child years with family and friends. We all stayed at a Gouvia, a tourist resort, some miles away from the city. I remember vividly the small hotel with the large swimming pool. To my young eyes, the swimming pool was as large as the sea! The owners were just lovely and had a son at my age, so we frequently played together in the garden. Every night we went t...

General: Top in natural beauty

Finally I got to visit Corfu with two friends of mine, on a summer week of August. A friend of ours, who lives there, was happy to give us a tour of the island and show the amazing beauties. Unfortunately, I will have to keep it as short as possible in order to avoid talking for hours. The historical center with the paved squares and the Venetian houses was a wonderful scene, something about Ve...

General: Crowded but still lovely

Corfu is the largest island of the Ionian Sea and one of the most beautiful destinations in Greece. I first visited the island 10 years ago but this time I felt the great atmosphere and the beauty of the island. Corfu is popular for its traditional cuisine and its musical tradition. Pastitsada and sofrito are among the mo...

Accommodation: Fantastic food and service

We spent 6 days at Agios Stefanos and Delfino Blu, one of the best beaches that we came across in our travels in Greece. First two days no waves at all, last 4 days small waves. There were lot of people on the beach, but it was not crowded- and walking further along brought you to parts of the beach that were sparsely frequented. Delfino Blu: fantastic food and service, definitely worth a ret...

Beaches: Fun but crowded

A gorgeous beach with soft sand and crystal water. It has a fun atmosphere and some beach bars with refreshing cocktails. Bad thing: it gets very crowded in high season. The bay next to Glyfada is Myrtiotissa beach, a partly nudist spot. The road to Glyfada is very narrow but through lush greenery.

Villages: Very tourist place

A very tourist place. Nice in off season, but in high season it gets very tourist. The good thing is the facilities (lots of hotels, shops and restaurants) and the location (only 8 km from Corfu Town, bus every hour). The beach is pebbled, avoid in the day because it gets too crowded but great for night swimming. The lights of the beach bars at night create a romantic atmosphere to walk by the ...

Beaches: For night swimming

Very long beach and very crowded in high season. This is one of the most tourist spots in Corfu, with many hotels, shops, restaurants and beach bars. Edem Bar is great: it is located at the beach of Dassia, nice music, relaxing atmosphere and a perfect spot for night swimming. In the daytime, it gets very busy, mostly by families with kids.

Villages: Enjoy the sunset

The village with the best sunset in Corfu!!! It is located on the slopes of a hill, almost in the centre of the island. The village itself is not very tourist, but there are two beaches near Pelekas (Agios Gorgis and Pelekas beach) that are among the most tourist places in Corfu. There you will find lots of hotels, seaside taverns and watersports. Very busy in high season, but the landscape clo...

General: No place like this

Over the years Corfu is getting more and more commercialized and as a regular visitor to the island I am quite pained. That said, I still can't think of any other place in Greece, where I'd much rather for holiday. And despite all the cheerful budget resorts that are crowding the island, I still manage to find my little spots of happiness in tranquil hideaways with beautiful beaches and splendi...

Beaches: Bit secluded after sunset

Glyfada beach guarantees amazing family holidays. I took my wife, son and daughter to a lovely Greek beach vacation this summer. We had been planning about it for over a year and I wanted to make sure that no mistake was made. We chose to stay in self catering apartment for a week near Glyfada beach. The two bedroom apartment was basic, but it had a balcony with amazing view of the sea. We had ...

Beaches: Great for laidback vacation

We are an elderly couple and we were looking for a laidback vacation, so Kalami suited us greatly. A pretty village that provided us with exactly what we wanted. We didn't want a village that is filled with tourist activities. Kalami has pretty much no roads and there were practically no cars. It is a very humble village that is left unaffected by mass tourism. The beach was pebbly which I love...

General: Times to remember

What I liked best about Corfu was its greenery. Hot spells in summer and mild winter rains have produced a green island full of olive groves and the landscape is absolutely pleasing to the eye. After few days enjoying the beach in Pelekas and the hot sun, I decided to take a local taxi and explore the island on my own. The taxi driver offered to take me to the Aqualand, the largest water park i...

General: Great for families with kids

We had been to Corfu twice before and we went again last summer because it is a great place for families with children. Beaches are safe: no strong winds, no urchins, no deep water. Perfect to let your children free all day. Favourite beaches: Glyfada, Agios Gordis, Pelekas, Ypsos and so many other.

Maybe beaches on Corfu...

General: Far from my idea of Greece

I've been several times in Corfu, before visiting Dodecanese. Living in Bari, it was very close to Italy and well linked with my town. About the island, it's a nice one even if it's quite far from my idea of Greece: it looks too European.
The Old Town is interesting, but in the last years it became too busy and find a parking for your car is like an hell pain even in the Esplanade area. Rest...

General: Island with normal life

Our experience is that Corfu was the best destination we ever had. Best villages, gorgeous beaches, amazing landscape. I had heard that Corfu gets very busy in July and August, so we tried it a month earlier (mid-June) and indeed sometimes beaches were so relaxing that I could even forget my name!

It is nice that Corf...
