If you like winter, snow, traditional Greek villages and warm coffe houses to snuggle in, then Arachova is one of the best places to be in winter. Arachova is very close to Athens and it is very easy to get there.

Arachova combines the rock traditional houses, with the many coffee shops, restaurants, night clubs an...

General: Drink hot coffee and let it be freezing

It is a shame that such a beautiful town is not much advertised as a great ski spot in Greece. We discovered Arachova by chance in your site, while we were looking for a weekend place near Athens (we had come in Athens for a conference in December). I searched in some travel guides about Greece and not a word about Arachova!! Anyway, I feel lucky I saw this lovely place. It is like a village ac...

Food: Tasty dishes and products

What I enjoyed most in Arachova was the traditional recipes I tasted. There, you will find all kind of pies, from the traditional cheese and vegetable pies to zucchini and meat pies with a lot of spices. Another excellent fish recipe is Brigiani, having haddock and vegetables as its main ingredients. Also definitely try formaella, a kind of cheese that is only made in Arachova. You will love it...

Churches: Monastery of Osios Loukas

From Arachova, I remember the narrow stairs, the views from the cafeterias and the Monastery of Osios Loukas. I usually do not like churches adn monasteries, but this one I loved it! We run at it by chance, while we were driving around the area. It is among greenery and built in great byzantine architecture. I was impressed to know that the Monastery was not dedicated to Apostle Loukas, but to ...

General: Famous for Parnassos Ski Centre

Arachova is a mostly known because of the Parnassos Ski Centre. We go there very often in winter because my son is a skier and takes part in championships. It is a picturesque town with beautiful houses and many sights to see. It is easy to go to Delphi from Arachova and to many nice monasteries. The monstery of Osios Loukas is my favourite. I love its shape.

General: Is worth a visit

Visiting a very good Greek friend of mine in Athens last winter, we decided to go to for a day trip to Arachova for skiing. We arrived there by car, it lasted only about two hours and the trip to the mountain Parnassos was really fun. I was so excited when I first saw the village, it is beautiful with all these traditional houses and little roads climbing on the mountain slop! It was full of pe...
