General: Horse buggies and deer

Aegina is 1 hour away from Piraeus, by ferry! We got to see her for the first time, on our way to Agistri. The ferry to Agistri has a stop over the port of Aegina for some minutes, on its way to Agistri. The first impression of the island port was so nice, that we visited the place some days after!
So... first thought...

General: People with a smile

I was surprised to see such a lovely island and with clean waters so close to Athens. I thought that you have to travel far from Athens to fidn nice beaches and rural life, but apparently I hadn't thought of Aegina. It was my first time there and I liked it a lot. No huge nightlife but lovely seaside villages, sun beds, colourful umbrellas and people with a smile on their face. It was too hot i...

Villages: One day was not enough

We went only for one day on Aegina, so we didn't have much time to visit the whole island. Actually, we stayed only in the Town. The nicest spot is the port and the waterfront. Small cafeterias dot the port and you will find it relaxing just to seat and see the boats coming and leaving. Strolling in the centre is a must thing to do, although you will find it very crowded in summer months. For g...

General: Welcoming even in winter

There was an amazing church in the middle of the island somewhere. We found it by luck and happened to stop by at a whim and I am so happy we did. It was very empty because it was January. There were few tourists and the monks there seemed so calm and peaceful. I couldn't remember its name but I saw in photos in your site that it was Saint Nektarios.

Shopping on Aegina was pretty neat, a lo...

Villages: Trek to the Temple of Aphaia

Agia Marina, along with Souvala, is one of the tourist resorts on Aegina. It has a beautiful beach with cozy taverns, cafeterias and hotels nearby. Apart from its beach, Agia Marina is also famous for the Temple of Athena Aphaia, a bit away from the village. This temple is partly ruined today but beautiful, especially in the sunset, when there is a romantic atmosphere. You can trek there from A...

Villages: Walk along the waterfront

We went to Aegina only for one day from Athens and saw just the capital village, not the rest of the island. As the ferry was approaching the port, you could see the temple of Apollo with only one column standing today. The waterfront of Aegina was lovely, the typical waterfront of a Greek island with gift shops, taverns and cafeterias. The food was great, especially the sausages, delicious! I ...

Beaches: Relax in Souvala

I went to Souvala on Aegina last month. It was a nice little place to relax and take some time off. The beach next to Souvala was OK, food good, especially at Ela Mesa, people friendly and welcoming hotel (Ela Mesa). As I stayed only in Souvala, I can't speak for the rest of the island. Just improve the roads there, as they get dangerous sometimes.

General: Visit Agios Nektarios

I wanted to go to Aegina to visit the monastery of Agios Nektarios. This was the main reason. I had been to the island some years before and found that little has changed. Of course, we enjoyed the beaches a lot. We tried to stay away from the crowded town beach. The restaurants in Aegina port town were nothing spectacular and they basically all served the same thing. We did enjoy the outdoor ...

General: I expected something more

We visited Aegina in September and stayed for almost a week. We chose this island because we wanted to go somewhere close to Athens, so that the children would not get too tired from the trip. We arrived by plane in Athens airport and then we went by ferry to Aegina. At this point, I have to say that the Metro ticket from Athens airport to Piraeus port was very expensive!! The island itself was...

General: Breathtaking scenery Amazing people

The main purpose of our visit was to go at the Convent of Agios Nektarios, the miracle-worker, on the island of Aegina. The Monastery of Saint Nektarios is an impressive place, even for non-believers, and the story of Saint Nektarios life is one of a kind - esp since he is the last saint to be canonized, actally living in the 20th century --- a revelation!!!
We were on Aegina on low season, so...

General: Authentic with nice people

Hello, my name is Alina Mustata and I'm Romanian. I'm 32 years old, and I've been up to 15 countries. In the summer of 2006 I went to Greece and the island of Aegina.
I arrived on the island by car. The trip was very good.
The reason I visited this particular island is because it was recommended by friends.
I visited the island just for praying to St.Nektarios. Everything was all right.

General: It met my expectations

Hello, I'm British and I'm 46 years old. I've been to many countries.
I arrived on the island by boat with the Saron Cat from Piraeus to Aegina. The trip was pretty good.
I had previously visited Aegina Town (from Agistri) and wanted to see the whole island of Aegina, because I really liked it the first time.
Before I arrived on the island I knew little about Aegina Town and about archeol...
