More about Sparti
An overview of Sparti Greece...
Sparti in southern Peloponnese is actually the modern town of ancient Sparta, the world famous city which trained its citizens to be the best warriors and to protect their homeland with their lives. The strong army of Sparta is mostly famous to the world from the battle of Thermopylae, where the Greeks got united against the Persians and the brave Spartans remained last to defend Greece in an uneven fight.
The modern town of Sparti was recently established, in the early 1830s, close to the ancient town. Remains of ancient Sparta can now be seen just outside the city centre, where a statue of Leonidas, the famous Spartan king, also stands.
Sparti is today a modern town with all facilities and has the best architectural design in Greece. Its architecture distinguishes for the Neoclassical style and the central square is the most popular spot. The location of Sparti also favours for close excursions, such as to Mystras, Gythio, Monemvasia, Kalamata, Elafonissos, Kythira and many other beautiful places in Peloponnese.
