There is no airport in Sparti. The nearest airports are located in Kalamata and Athens. The airport of Kalamata works only in summer and receives charters and low cost flights from abroad. The airport of Athens receives domestic and international flights all year round. From both Athens and Kalamata, visitors can take the bus to Sparti.
Sparti is located 225 km south west of Athens, on the south eastern side of Peloponnese. To drive there, you follow the National Highway from Athens to Tripoli, through the Corinth Canal, and then you take the rural road from Tripoli to Sparti. The highway is a very easy and comfortable road, while the rural road is more narrow and has only one line per direction. Although attention is needed, it is a scenic road to drive through the mountainside. The entire road trip from Athens to Sparti takes about 3 and half hours.
There are daily buses that connect Athens to Sparti. The bus to Sparti depart from Kifissos Bus Station in Athens about 4-5 times per day. The bus trip takes about 4 hours. From Sparti, there are also buses to other towns in the region such as Kalamata, Gythio, Mystras and Monemvasia.
