However, Epidaurus is also a lovely tourist destination as the close village attracts many tourists and yatchs in the small port. The beaches are small but clean and the surrounding environment is luch green, with a lot of pine forests dominating the area.

The region is calm and beautiful, while there is a frequent connection with Saronic islands through hydrofoils. In the ancient times, this was the port of ancient Sparta. Today, Gythio is the capital of Mani, a region famous for its strict social rules. Gythio gets very popular in summer for its lovely port, the impressive landscape and the gorgeous, sandy beaches. At the entrance of the port, there is the small islet of Kranae, with a tiny chapel, a tower and a lighthouse on it. The myth says that this is where Paris and Helen spent the night before they sail for Troy.

Kalavryta is one of the most popular winter destinations in Greece. This is a town with a rich historical importance for the Greeks for two reasons mostly: fthe Greek Revolution was declared there in March 1821 for the first time, and also a terrible Holocaust took place in December 1943 in Kalavryta, when the Germans killed all the male population of the village. The monasteries of the area, the ski centre, the Cave of the Lakes and the beautiful landscape are enough for interesting and relaxing vacations.

The Byzantine Town of Mystras is located in south eastern Peloponnese. Once it used to be a strong fortified town. In fact, it was the second most important town of the Byzantine Empire, after Constantinople. Today, it is an abandoned village with a ruined palace and interesting Byzantine churches that have been declared as world heritage monuments by Unesco. Mystras has built on top of a huge rock and overlooks the valley of Sparti.

Nafplion is a lovely town in Peloponnese, famous for its romantic ambience and the two strong fortressses, Bourtzi and Palamidi. It gets very frequent as a weekend destination, but it is also a nice family resort, as the beaches around Nafplion are organized with a lot of tourist amenities. Nafplion is also a town with interesting history, as it was the first capital of the Greek State in the late 1820s and this is where Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first governor of free Greece, was murdered.

Located in south eastern Peloponnese, this is the modern version of ancient Sparta, one of the two most powerful city-states in ancient Greece. Unlike other Greek towns, Sparti has a nice architectural plan, as it was entirely built according to a design and a decree of king Otto in the 1840s. Close to Sparti, there are the ruins of ancient Sparta on one side and the Byzantine fortress of Mystras on the other.
