Located just 2 hours away from Athens, the city of Nafplion is famous for its historic churches that dot this pristine town. Amongst several churches in the area there are quite a few that have enormous historical significance.

Apart from these churches, one should also visit Agios Spiridon church built in 1702, located in Agios Spiridona Square.
It was here that the First Governor of Independent Greece was assassinated in 1831.
The walls of this church are still scarred with the bullet marks speaking of this ghastly act of terror. |
