Many visitors to Greece use Nafplion as a base for visiting the villages and beaches nearby. The closest beach to Nafplion is the pebbly beach of Arvanitia, from where you can have an amazing view of Palamidi Fortress and Akronafplia. Driving south-east, you will come across the sand-and-pebble beach of Karathona.
If you are in the mood of driving a little further, having Nafplion as a starting point, you can follow the road to Epidaurus and turn right on the sign to Assini. When you reach the coastal road you will have a lot of beach options to choose; on the right you will see the touristy village of Tolo and Psili Ammos Beach, while on the left in a distance of just a few kilometers you will find the beaches of Drepanon, Vivari, Kandia and Iria.
