| Byzantine Museum of Mystras |
|
Apart from being an open-air museum itself, the town of Mystra counts on a regular museum that can be visited in order to complement what the ruins provide in terms of history. It is the Byzantine museum, also known as the Archaeological museum of Mystras. It is housed in the cathedral of Agios Demetrios. |

A two-storey building found at the west wing of the north courtyard houses the Museum. It was founded in 1951, after which the collections were progressively enriched as the years went by.
These collections include many interesting exponents of Byzantine sculpture, fragments of wall paintings, pottery, jewellery, pieces of fabrics, coins, as well as post-Byzantine icons and different types of customs and articles, like the coat of arms of Isabella Lousinian.

Apart from these items, the museum has two sections of the iconostasis from the Pantanassa church, and there is also the iconostasis of the Katakousinos family – from which the first despot of Morea came.
