We visited Mystras on a one day trip, while we were in Sparta. Mystras is only some km away from Sparta and we thought to spend a day there. Mind that the Mystras itself is uninhabited! The castle was left abandoned after the Turkish dominations and at the moment there are no citizens at all inside the castle. Walking through the castle however is still very interesting. There are many churches too, one of them is the host to the last people staying there, the nuns. If I were you, I would start my visit to Mystras on a morning, since, apart from walking around the castle ruins and churches, there is actually nothing you can do. Once we were done there, we moved to the village nearby, called New Mystras. When the citizens of Mystras abandoned the castle, some of them created this little village next to their old hometown. In new Mystras, there are some places to eat and it is actually inhabited.
