The production of wine is still one of the most characteristic features of Monemvasia. In fact, Monemvasian wines have a great reputation outside its borders.
In part, this is because some of the grapes used for this purpose are said to be the same of the ones included in the production of the legendary wine ‘Malvazia’, which was first produced there in the 12th century.
