The Muslim Mosque in Monemvasia: The Muslim Mosque in Monemvasia town on Peloponnese was built during the 16th century, while Greece was under Turkish occupation. It was, however, later converted into a Frankish church during the Venetian occupation. It was converted into a public building again during the 2nd Venetian occupation (1690-1713) and it became a mosque again in the 18th century.
The building was then transformed into a prison and a coffee shop later after liberation. Today, it has been restored and it houses the archaeological collection of Monemvasia. |
