Monemvasia Muslim Mosque: Muslim Mosque museum of Monemvasia Peloponnese, Greece

Muslim Mosque of MonemvasiaThe Muslim Mosque in Monemvasia: The Muslim Mosque in Monemvasia town on Peloponnese was built during the 16th century, while Greece was under Turkish occupation. It was, however, later converted into a Frankish church during the Venetian occupation. It was converted into a public building again during the 2nd Venetian occupation (1690-1713) and it became a mosque again in the 18th century.

The building was then transformed into a prison and a coffee shop later after liberation. Today, it has been restored and it houses the archaeological collection of Monemvasia.

This museum was opened for the public in 1999. The Muslim Mosque of Monemvasia has thus become a historically important building.
